I had the privilege of writing an original song with the amazing pupils (and teachers) at Straiton Primary School Ayrshire earlier on this year.
The result is the track ‘Small School, Big Heart’ which is available now for download on all major platforms.
It was wonderful to have the pupil’s creative ideas and the school’s values to draw on for inspiration.
The Head Teacher Mr Hislop was so encouraging about the whole project right from the start. We even got one of the teacher’s (Mrs Riddicks) singing on the track and she was awesome.
The pupils decided to call themselves ‘Wait a Minute’. The name came by accident when we were looking for a name and one of the pupils just said ‘Wait a Minute’ and they voted and that name was chosen.
This is the smallest school I have worked in but they had really good singers and of course… a Big Heart!!
The song takes their own motto ‘Small School, Big Heart’ and expands it into a fun song that honours the school values, teachers and even the Village surrounding them.
My friend and Maestro Jamie Clark came in and recorded the song at the school then added more instruments in the studio.
We hope you love the song, download and share it. It was a wonderful experience and it was brilliant to play for the song when the pupils sang it at the Prizegiving. I hope I get to work with them again!
